The Life of a Celebrity Stylist: Daisy Deane on working with Ella Eyre, Interning and Wasabi Peas

Updated: Nov 10, 2022

‘You need determination and grit for sure, it’s not an easy industry to work in. You have to really want it.’ It’s early afternoon on campus, and celebrity stylist Daisy Deane is here to discuss her whirlwind of a career. She looks visibly relaxed as she takes off her elaborate faux-fur animal print jacket and swings it over the back of a chair, revealing her all-black ensemble complemented by crisp Air Force Ones and layered gold jewellery. She looks the epitome of flawless and well put together.

The fashion expert has worked with all kinds of celebrities, from AJ Tracey, the sensational Ladbroke Grove rapper to Lil Miquela, the digital avatar influencer. However, she is best known for working alongside Ella Eyre, giving her those stunning red-carpet looks. ‘Ella is a powerhouse of a woman,’ she tells us. ‘We’re best friends now too. I love working with her because she’s just a normal person, like the rest of us. My advice would be to not put a celebrity on a pedestal, we’re all the same.’ Daisy is Ella’s creative director, which means she is in control of anything visual or creative that a musician is involved with. She also runs her own creative agency as well as being a stylist and working for lots of other musicians – so her job is pretty loaded with to-do lists and phone calls. ‘It’s not an easy industry to work in,’ she admits.

Her job undeniably seems extensive and hard work, but she proudly tells us that ‘it’s all worth it. I remember seeing the project I was involved with on a billboard when I was walking down the street. And seeing your name in a magazine – OMG.’ She gasps at the thought of her successes.

Daisy didn’t just appear in this job role from day one, though. At the mere age of 16, a leaver from school, she only aspired to be in the fashion industry. Until she found her first break into the style world. ‘My dad met a woman at work one day – he was doing some maintenance work for her in her garden. She happened to be a stylist at Vogue! They got talking and that’s how I found my first internship as a stylist.’ As you might expect, it involved lots of carrying heavy bags and heaps of clothes and running around a lot for others. She chuckles when she’s reminded of weird jobs that she did during her time as an assistant intern: ‘I remember someone

wanted wasabi peas. I was this 16-year-old girl that would do anything for anyone. So, off I went in search of these random wasabi peas in the aisles of M&S.’

After interning for lots of different places, she became a fashion assistant at More magazine – where her career took off. As an assistant, she helped to style celebrity shoots, search for products and guide magazine interns. Her plans however took a downward spiral when More magazine unfortunately had to shut because of ‘unrecoverable advertising declines,’ according to Subscription Insider. So, Daisy’s career path had to take a turn. The fashion mogul made the leap over to freelance work as a junior stylist, which she wholeheartedly enjoyed, as much as it was hard work, expectedly. Once again, Daisy was unfortunately met with the same circum

stances after she became fashion director at a men’s fashion magazine. The publication closed which led to her going freelance again, and this time, she signed with an agency so she could become more involved in music celebrities. ‘It wasn’t too far removed from Devil Wears Prada with business of it all,’ she exclaims, although, she is sure to mention that the luxury of the film isn’t all accurate. ‘There’s no high heels or anything like that – it’s tracksuits and trainers, for me. You’re on the floor, half of the time’.

After a rocky start with her previous employers closing, Daisy is now a successful businesswoman as well as a stylist and creative director. She has founded DELA.STUDIO this year, a creative agency providing services for stills and video, from casting to commissioning. Alongside this venture, she has her own store – The Ring Archive, where you can purchase all sorts of vintage jewellery sourced by Daisy herself (her style is obviously impeccable, so you’re sure to find something). And, to top It all off, she’s still a creative director and stylist for lots of musicians, including Ella Eyre. What a powerhouse of a woman.
